Prof. Md. Kamruzzaman

Biography

Md. Kamruzzaman is Professor of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Gopalganj Science and Technology University (GSTU), Bangladesh, and Chairman of the department.

Born in Chapai Nawabganj, Bangladesh, he received his B.Sc. (Honours) in 2002 and M.Sc. in 2003 in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology from the University of Dhaka, both in the first class. He then joined the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory of icddr,b as a research assistant, working on projects funded by Dartmouth College, the World Bank and UNICEF.

In 2010 he moved to the Spectroanalytical Chemistry Laboratory at Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Republic of Korea, where he received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in February 2013. His doctoral work introduced a series of nanoparticle-enhanced lanthanide luminescence and microfluidic chemiluminescence methods, published in Food Chemistry, Sensors and Actuators B, Microchimica Acta, Biomedical Microdevices and the Journal of Luminescence.

After teaching at Daffodil International University and American International University–Bangladesh, he joined GSTU (then Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University) in April 2018. He was promoted to Associate Professor in November 2021 and to Professor on 1 July 2026. At GSTU he is Principal Investigator of the Advanced Functional Materials and Nanotechnology (AFMN) Laboratory, whose work on MXene–biopolymer nanocomposites has appeared in ACS Applied Engineering Materials, RSC Sustainability, Packaging Technology and Science and Materials Chemistry and Physics.
